YANGON, MYANMAR — October 20 — In honor of World Sight Day and in commitment to pediatric healthcare, HAGL Myanmar held an official donation ceremony at the Meeting Hall (Level 1) of the Yangon Eye Specialist Hospital under its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) platform, “We Care, We Share.”
During the event, HAGL Myanmar presented a total contribution of 13 million MMK (130 Lakhs MMK) to support pediatric eye care and overall hospital operations. The funds are allocated as follows:
- 12 Million MMK (12,000,000 MMK):Directly dedicated to fully funding critical, life-changing cataract surgeries for five underprivileged children.
- 1 Million MMK (1,000,000 MMK): Allocated to support general operational expenses at Yangon Eye Specialist Hospital.
Overcoming Barriers to Pediatric Eye Healthcare
Pediatric cataracts represent a significant risk to visual development. Without surgical intervention prior to the critical age of 12, affected children face the risk of permanent visual impairment. For low-income families—particularly those living in remote areas—the financial cost of surgery often creates an insurmountable obstacle to obtaining necessary medical treatment.
Highlighting the everyday struggles faced by affected families, a mother of one of the young patients shared:
My child can’t see the text clearly. When writing, his face has to be almost touching the notebook. When walking around, he can’t see objects on the ground and often trips and falls. It is very difficult for him.
By providing financial relief to vulnerable families, HAGL Myanmar aims to help young patients regain their vision, resume their education, and participate fully in daily life.
A Shared Commitment to Community Wellbeing
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Kha, General Director of HAGL Myanmar, emphasized the broader social impact of restoring vision:
Restoring a child’s sight not only transforms their individual future, but it also brings renewed hope, relief, and strength to their entire family,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Kha. “Under our ‘We Care, We Share’ platform, we remain deeply committed to partnering with healthcare institutions like the Yangon Eye Specialist Hospital to strengthen public healthcare and uplift local communities.
The donation ceremony concluded with reaffirmed commitments from both hospital leadership and HAGL Myanmar representatives to continue collaborating on future public healthcare initiatives.
