When the rains turn from a seasonal blessing into a natural disaster, the speed of our response can make all the difference. Recently, torrential rainfall has caused severe flooding in several wards across Hlegu, Yangon Division, leaving local communities struggling to maintain their livelihoods and secure basic necessities.
As the floodwaters rose, families living near the Hlegu-Phaung Gyi Main Road were forced to evacuate their homes, seeking refuge in emergency relief camps established within local monasteries. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the “We Care, We Share” team mobilized immediately to provide direct aid to those displaced by the water.

Emergency Relief for 1,500 Residents
The journey to Hlegu was driven by a single goal: ensuring that no one in the relief camps had to worry about their next meal or clean drinking water. Our team successfully reached and distributed essential supplies to 1,500 people currently sheltering in the area.
Immediate distributions included:
• Prepared Meals: Ready-to-eat nourishment for families in transition.
• Purified Water Bottles: Ensuring safe hydration to prevent waterborne illnesses.
• Essential Medications: Basic medical supplies to address health concerns within the crowded camps.

Sustaining the Hope: Support for Moe Kya Monastery
While immediate relief is critical, the “We Care, We Share” initiative also looks toward the days ahead. Many evacuees will remain in shelters until the floodwaters recede and repairs can begin.
To support the long-term management of the relief efforts, we provided the Moe Kya Monastery—which is currently serving as a primary shelter—with a bulk donation of dry rations:
• Rice and Cooking Oils: The foundation of daily meals.
• Onions and Dried Food: Long-lasting ingredients to ensure the kitchen can continue serving those in need.
